Can It Be Done? We Say Yes!
Learn how Event Consulting helped shape a 10-year-old annual public event with 500 attendees, featuring on-site tours on a busy Saturday afternoon.
The Client: Ecowaste Industries Ltd. (Ecowaste), a privately owned Canadian company, hired Sharon Bonner Consulting Services to bring fresh perspectives to an annual recurring event held on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
With 50 years as a waste management operator, Ecowaste oversees a 160-hectare landfill that disposes of waste from construction, demolition, and excavation materials. It was very important to emphasize its efforts in commercial recycling, including wood recycling and waste transfer options.
Ecowaste has been a member of the Richmond community since 1971, providing an essential service as one of only two Construction and Demolition disposal sites in the Lower Mainland. It holds a special place in the community.
The Main Objectives to Secure
- To raise awareness
- Promote anti-waste practices
- Encourage repurposing landfills into productive commercial communities
How Consulting Services Had an Effect
With a clear purpose, there is no doubt that Ecowaste is a major force in the environmental space. It is an expert in recycling, reducing, and reclaiming. However, its message delivery lacked impact. That is where a professional like Sharon Bonner became essential, helping to reach the hearts of people and bring them into a mission of meaningful change.
Ecowaste designed the event to bridge the gap with the community and demonstrate the value and potential of investing in old landfills. It created an opportunity to highlight positive outcomes, such as building new warehouses, treating the soil, and recycling metal and paint.
On the day, the event was a success, with high attendance. Ecowaste featured a tent with poster boards showcasing key milestones. The story of how the landfill began in 1971 resonated strongly with Richmond residents. The team also set up a second tent dedicated to donations.
The donation tent was filled with items recovered from the landfill that could be repurposed or reused. There were some great finds. An inspiring way to redefine a second life for items. Who says a life cycle is limited to one use?
Conclusion
All of this was achieved with the help of an experienced Event Consultant. What could have been a routine visit became an eco-landfill tour transformed into an engaging and purposeful event, not only for the environment but for the community as well.
The best part is that it is a recurring event, a perfect way to stay connected and engaged. We look forward to seeing the same energy in 2026.
